Trainer's Corner: House Rules

Last month I posted about the importance of not just supervising dogs and babies together, but also acting as an advocate for your dog in order to prevent dog bites. Because I have a cat, 2 dogs, and a toddler, I know that the gap between how things “should be” and real life can feel pretty far apart sometimes. In order to help bridge that gap, I’ve come up with a few, fairly simple rules, so that no matter how chaotic things get on any given day, my whole family can be on the same page....

Trainer's Corner: #CuteNotCute

Another devastating dog bite was reported in the news recently, and thanks to social media, it ended up in my newsfeed. This was a particularly disturbing story because the bite was a severe one to the face of a 2-year old and the beloved family dog is going to be put to sleep after 10 days quarantine. Like many dog bites to children, an adult was in the room with the dog and the kid, and he was completely bewildered about what went wrong....

Obedience Classes Start in January

Doggedly Devoted owner and certified dog trainer Megan Coryat will be teaching a 5-week Beginner Level Obedience class for dogs and their humans. The course will run for five Thursday nights at7:30 pm, January 14 through February 18 (no class January 28.) The cost for the course is $220. Registration is now open and will close Thursday January 7, or when all the spots are filled. Registration is limited to 5 teams so that each training team gets individual attention....

ASPCA Mobile Spay and Neuter Clinic at Doggedly Devoted: 1/2/2016

The ASPCA’s mobile Spay and Neuter Clinic will be at Doggedly Devoted on Saturday, January 2 at 7 AM. Folks usually start lining up at about 6:30 AM, and the ASPCA recommends that you arrive at the location before 7:00 A.M. The ASPCA usually serves about 20-25 animals per day on a first-come, first-served basis, filled to capacity. The cost for the surgery is $125 if you are not on public assistance and $5 if you have proof of public assistance....

Daycare Dog of the Month: Tallulah!

Lindy thought that she wasn’t quite ready for another dog yet when Tallulah came into her life, but Tallulah lives up to the adage that things happen for a reason. Lindy met Tallulah through the Nashville dog daycare where her pug Thurston was attending playgroups. The daycare staff knew that Lindy was still grieving the loss of her other pug Lovey who had passed away recently too young at the age of 4 years, but they asked her to give Tallulah a try....
