I spend a couple days a week volunteering with NYC’s Animal Care and Control, and it is incredibly rewarding work. The AC&C is a special place: the animals who arrive there come from all kinds of situations and many of them are greatly in need. This week I did myfirst shift as a Level 2 Dog Companion, and I met a fellow volunteer whom I told about Doggedly Devoted and how the vagaries of the construction schedule allow me to volunteer at the AC&C....
Our new space at 1400 Fifth Avenue is a roomy 3,000 square feet, and we are excited to start our renovations soon. The site was formerly a meat market, which might sound a little macabre, but the good news is that the layout is awesome for doggie daycare! We will have two big play rooms, as well as a comfy lobby for drop-off and pick-up. Here are some preview pics–check back in a couple months for the “after” photos!...
Doggedly Devoted will open its doors in the 1400 Fifth Avenue building on 116th Street in Harlem in the summer of 2012. We are thrilled to offer our neighbors a safe, secure facility for their family pets to stay with us for doggie daycare, and for overnight stays for cats and dogs. We are working every day toward making Doggedly Devoted happen in Harlem. This week, I took my NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene Small Animal Care course and passed with flying colors! We are certified! Also, we ordered our first merchandise: clickers emblazoned with the Doggedly Devoted logo. Look: A clicker is a tool you can use to train your dog using positive reinforcement. The idea is that to mark very, very exactly the behavior you want to encourage in your dog, and since dogs don’t really speak English, a click is faster and more effective to mark the good behavior....
