Maria King became a mover and a shaker in her coop building six years ago when it looked like the board wasn’t going to allow her to have a dog in her apartment. She received a notice a few months after she brought George home. She did her research, organized a committee, and got the signatures of her neighbors on a petition to change the coop rules. Part of her argument that there are lots of mental and physical benefits to living with pets, including lower blood pressure and a more active lifestyle....

Just in time for our anniversary of opening, Doggedly Devoted was recognized as a New York Business Development Corporation (NYBDC) success story. The excellent folks at NYBDC helped make our dream come true, when it looked like we weren’t going to be able to pull the funds together to do the renovations we needed to transform our space into a top-of-the-line dog daycare. With their support, we secured an SBA loan in a very competitive environment, and just in time to secure our fabulous space....
Hurricane season is officially under way, with between 13 and 20 named stormed predicted to make landfall this year. At Doggedly Devoted, dog safety is our highest priority, so we are prepared for all kinds of emergencies, including severe weather. We have gathered all the materials the mayor’s office recommends keeping a supply of emergency items on hand: One gallon of drinking water per person per day Nonperishable, ready-to-eat canned foods and manual can opener First aid kit Flashlight** Battery-operated AM/FM radio and extra batteries (you can also buy wind-up radios that do not require batteries) Whistle Iodine tablets or one quart of unscented bleach (for disinfecting water ONLY if directed to do so by health officials) and eyedropper (for adding bleach to water) We hope that we won’t have to endure a severe weather emergency, but if we do, we will be prepared to ensure the safety of everyone at Doggedly Devoted....
